A standard Indian seafarer, Mr Sahil Thakur came back home recently due to the efforts of Mr Amar Singh Thakur, General Secretary, All India Seafarers & General Workers Union.

Speaking over the phone from his residence in Himachal Pradesh, Sahil said, "I joined the vessel 'M. V. Sai Aarambh' on 11. 11. 2019. Ship was unfortunately arrested at Colombo Port on 29. 01. 2020. Owner abandoned the ship. I was stuck on board for 3 years and 7 months. My father was admitted to the hospital. My health was also not good. Eventually, I sought help from All India Seafarers & General Workers Union General Secretary Mr Amar Singh Thakur on 13th April 2023. Thanks to his efforts, I got released finally and came back home due to help and support received from Mr Amar Singh Thakur, Mr Abhijit Sangle (Working President of All India Seafarers & General Workers Union) and Mr Sanjay Pawar (President of All India Seafarers & General Workers Union). Also, I am extremely thankful for the support of Capt Sanjay Prashar, DG shipping India, SLGC Colombo, Indian embassy Colombo, ITF inspector Mr Ranjan Prera and the Ministry of External Affairs of India."
