In an exclusive conversation with Mumbai-based senior journalist Hemang Palan, Union Health Minister of India Dr Mansukh Mandaviya said that the recently notified ‘Uniform Code for Pharmaceuticals Marketing Practices’ or UCPMP defines the relationship of pharmaceutical companies with doctors.

“UCPMP is an attempt by our government to curb unethical practices in the medical field,” said Dr Mandaviya.

The move to strengthen UCPMP was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 when he warned India’s top pharmaceutical companies to strictly adhere to marketing ethics and not bribe doctors.
