It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to Marcel Liedts, a visionary leader whose contributions to both Anglo-Eastern and the maritime industry have left an indelible mark.

Marcel joined Anglo-Eastern in the mid-1980s and quickly became one of the company’s key architects. With his background as a Chief Engineer, Marcel always put seafarers at the heart of everything he did. He deeply respected their challenges and remained steadfast in his commitment to their well-being. This dedication was a cornerstone of his leadership and continues to inspire us today.

Though he retired from day-to-day operations a few years ago, Marcel remained an integral part of our organisation as a board member. His wisdom, insight, and passion for the maritime industry guided us even after his formal departure. His influence is deeply woven into the fabric of Anglo-Eastern, shaping not only the company but also the wider industry.

Marcel was a man of immense character - sharp, passionate, and always genuine. His authenticity was evident in every interaction, and he was never shy to express his thoughts, particularly when it came to insisting on proper technical solutions. Always the engineer, Marcel refused shortcuts or second-rate approaches, steadfastly advocating for the correct engineering path to ensure the highest standards. His unwavering insistence on doing things the right way, no matter the challenges, earned him respect and admiration throughout the industry.

Beyond his professional contributions, Marcel was a mentor, a colleague, and a friend to many. His generosity and warmth touched countless lives, making him a beloved figure both within Anglo-Eastern and across the maritime community. As Peter Cremers, a fellow leader in the industry, once said, “Anglo-Eastern and its globally recognised reputation would not be the same were it not for Marcel.” Those words resonate now more than ever.

Marcel’s passing is a profound loss, not just to Anglo-Eastern but to the entire maritime industry. His spirit, leadership, and unwavering commitment to excellence will continue to inspire us. As we move forward, we will honour his legacy by upholding the values he championed - integrity, technical excellence, and an enduring dedication to our seafarers.

Rest in peace, Marcel. Your memory will live on in the heart of Anglo-Eastern and in the countless lives you touched.
